Whitmer, in middle age, is still trying to craft an identity. Something vaguely redneck and revolutionary. Something “actually transgressive”. It’s like watching a boy learning to spit and cuss. He’s tried an embarrassment of role models but so far the hats are all too big. And he gets tangled up in several identities at once—growing a preppy beard to hide the weak chin and so on.

Whitmer’s hero worship is media driven—fiction, movies, music. He’s looking for some notoriety, some fame. Something gritty and manly. Unfortunately, he’s not original or natural. He’s a follower, a consumer, a groupie, just another fan—perpetually The Kid.

Perennially working on his manhood issue while ogling battered teenage girls or carnage of any description, Whitmer craves authenticity while at the same time aping the epitome of falsity and deception—the King of Fake.

Gerbils has a desperate need for attention and doesn’t seem to get it that nobody is that into him. He’s just not that interesting—another aging poseur with websites featuring his opinions and proclivities that he thinks should interest us. Internet versions of his personal Teen Magazine.

Hey Fred! From his behavior, my guess is Benjii is going through midlife crisis. Happens to all males.

  — Boe - 04 July '09 - 22:40
Fake is the new real, Fred.

My advice: get some sun, Whitmer. Lots of that high altitude, UV-rich Boulder sun. It will shrivel your face from its current suburban white boy, inflated, pink flatworm, bubba-lipped human zeppelin look into something with pigmentation, scarred canyons, and character. You can reinvent yourself as a reprehensible Western town character, like David Carridine late in his career. You could wear a cowboy hat, duster, and clothesline with no sense of irony to speak of. Beaded headband either on the hat or under the hat, both are OK.

You are already nasty to look at. I think you were cheated. Smack yourself again with the ugly stick, evade fate by taking it to the next level.

You know Ben, not for nothing, but you're kind of a whiner.

  — Klaymore () - 05 July '09 - 02:39
Dang, Benj .. how terrible the USA has been to you and FAKE INDIAN.

All those columns by REAL INDIANS, blasting FAKE INDIAN.

And this terrible racist country electing a Harvard Law phony -- without bloodshed in the streets -- what a crappy country!

You and it make me want to cry .. BOO, HOO, HOO ..

So you won't be doing this when Churchill wins in court? http://tinyurl.com/o9r3o7

  — Madison - 05 July '09 - 19:08
Jeez, you guys are so mean. Benjie: one death threat. I'll never doubt you again.

Madison: your link doesn't work.

It's a Michael Jackson fan who looks way too happy, releasing one white dove with each 'not guilty count' a couple years ago when the mom was trying to extort him.

  — Madison - 06 July '09 - 21:20
Heh. Just read your screed, Fred. The best part is that according to my site stats, you're probably my number one reader. In fact, you're probably on my site more than I'm on Pirateballerina these days -- and that's saying something.

Speaking of which, are you some kind of shut in? You seem to just sit in one place and pump the refresh button every half hour or so. Is gainful employment that hard to find down your way?

You mean those site stats you've always hidden, Benjie?

Are we changing the subject entirely now, Martin?

Churchill, asked to comment on the new questions raised about the investigation into his scholarship, issued a one-word response by e-mail: "Heh."

"Every yuppie born has the same impact on the environment as another 70 Chinese. Lay that one on the next Polo-clad geek who approaches you with a baby stroller and an outraged look, demanding that you put your cigarette out, eh? Tell 'em you'll snuff the smoke when they snuff the kid, and not a moment before. Better yet, tell 'em they need to get busy snuffing themselves, along with the kid, and do the planet a real favor. Just 'kidding' (heh heh)."

USA Today- February 8,2005

"Tuesday's speech in which Churchill defended himself almost didn't happen. Campus officials postponed it Monday for security reasons. Student organizers of the lecture said they had received threats."

"But Churchill and his supporters sought a federal court injunction in Denver on Tuesday to override that decision. After university officials met again with the organizers, students "retracted" their reports of death threats and urged that the speech go forward, said Ronald Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs."

Did they lie when they said there were death threats or did they lie when they retracted the report of death threats?

  — Laurie - 06 July '09 - 23:40
Laurie, first of all let me congratulate you on posting the same comment in adjacent time slots and in adjacent threads, I'd like to grant you this year's acetylcholine deficiency award. Great work. Now for your comment, round two. First of all, so says Stump, says USA today. Talk about credibility. Secondly, which students, and were we talking about threats against students? (no, we weren't) Thirdly you cannot, by definition, lie by retracting a comment. Finally, your case highlights the kind of abuses of which certain administrators in CU are guilty in the Churchill case. They used threats against students who supported the professor as a basis to ban him from speaking. See the deviousness there? Rather than protect the ethnic studies department in the face of an extremely hostile, intolerant, racist and outright murderous environment, they further stifled speech by its chair. Thanks for the excellent example.
