CNews 2July09

Sloppy writing and blatant hero worship mark two of DU Sturm College of Law's Race to the Bottom's "reportage" of the Ward Churchill reinstatement hearing yesterday.

First, their color commentary
Excerpt:

While the witnesses—especially Professor [Richard] Jessor—spoke passionately about the importance of research integrity to maintain academic standards, this is a pretty esoteric concept.

In the end, CU had only speculation that the sort-of-proved allegations of research misconduct would so damage the University’s reputation as to affect hiring and enrollment.
Integrity is an esoteric concept. Got it. In any case, that CU only "sort-of-proved allegations" of research misconduct during Teh Trial is precisely why Churchill won and CU lost; fairly obvious instances of Churchill's research misconduct, plagiarism, and fraud litter his career, and it takes a special brand of stupid to miss them. Lucky for CU, defense attorney Patrick 'Rourke was up to the task.

Anyway, in a second post, The Battle of the Message
Excerpt:
Professor Churchill’s testimony was—as ever—eloquent. He emphasized that he filed a lawsuit as “a matter of principle to preserve the concept of academic freedom, which is to say that political powers cannot silence professors because they disagree with their beliefs.” (all quotes approximate) “And to obtain justice, restitution, restoration to the position that jury found I was illegally removed from.”
Yup. Eloquence that even paraphrase cannot adulterate. Perhaps the testimony yesterday was lopsided in terms of eloquence, righteous indignation, and hubris, but who could tell from these reports? Charlene Hunter, the third year law student to whom integrity is an esoteric concept, authored both; her past reports on this case have all shown a growing bias toward The Perfesser, and these two posts mark her change to E major.

Incisive, dispassionate legal analysis of the final act of a complex legal ballet? Or schoolgirl-crush mash notes written by scented candle light, reclining in a warm, sudsy bath, Ravel's Boléro playing in the background? You decide. (ht Leah)

Teachers for a Democratic Society, repository of the "Unfire Ward Churchill" petition (and nothing else), having apparently achieved its purpose, ceased to exist a while back, but we're just now able to speak of its passing without tears.

Right. Even though she doesn't have a dog in this hunt, she's been in the courtroom for nearly every minute, and she's a law student writing under guidance from her professors, she couldn't possibly be providing an accurate assessment of the proceedings. Y'know, because she doesn't agree with a dimwit horse-breeder who, as far as I know, hasn't even set foot in the courtroom once.

Keep frothing, please.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 11:01
Such righteous outrage! Good thing I didn't suggest she be raped with a wood-rasp, huh, Benjie.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 11:21
Outrage? I'm just pointing out you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. As usual.

And, hey, I'm curious, do you and your schoolmarm buddy, Martin, keep pulling out that wood rasp line because you're trying to make me feel bad about it? Just to be clear, that probably ain't ever gonna happen. That shit was funny, and Calhoun plays rough, she can deal with it. (Or not, I really don't give a shit.)

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 11:49
You are truly the gift that keeps on giving, Benjie. That is, if by "gift" one means "loutish poseur." Confidentially, you might want to bear in mind that this blog, unlike some others, does not have the disconcerting habit of disappearing. Important to remember, should you ever seek an adjunct hustler position again.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 12:00
Yawn.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 12:04
We keep pulling that line out, Benjie, because it perfectly illustrates what you are.

RttB has leaned Chutchward throughout, and has only gotten worse. Benjie's right, too--Hunter's stuff has to have been looked at by her professors.

Where are the Saittas of yesteryear?

  — jgm () (URL) - 02 July '09 - 13:07
"That shit was funny, and Calhoun plays rough, she can deal with it. (Or not, I really don't give a shit.)

Spoken like a true psychopath. Well done, Ben.

  — Laurie - 02 July '09 - 20:42
I think you got this exactly right. I hope she doesn't suffer too much damage before she gets her head on straight.

"Incisive, dispassionate legal analysis of the final act of a complex legal ballet? Or schoolgirl-crush mash notes written by scented candle light, reclining in a warm, sudsy bath, Ravel's Boléro playing in the background? You decide. (ht Leah)"

  — Laurie - 02 July '09 - 20:54
So... Churchill's incompetent, O'Rourke's incompetent, Ms. Hunter is incompetent, and oh yeah, your hero Saitta was a high up in the AAUP, who I guess I should remind you to hate. I thought I was the one with the superiority complex?

  — Tyndale - 02 July '09 - 22:15
(not a question)

  — Tyndale - 02 July '09 - 22:16
Saitta is rational. He's a decent person. I don't hate people who don't believe exactly what I believe. If I did, I'd be just like Benjamin, who hates almost everyone.

  — Laurie - 02 July '09 - 22:25
Maybe Chutch can go sniffing around Charlene down the road at DU when he's done kicking Nutso Psycho to the curb.

  — Mike - 02 July '09 - 23:33
Chutch is not going to be kicking Nancy Elaine to the curb, Mike. She brings in probably close to six figures per annum, has a health plan, and believes every nutty thing he says without question. He's not going to do any better, and he knows it.

  — Noj - 03 July '09 - 14:07
Well, except for the six-figures thing, Benjie fits that description, too, Noj.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 03 July '09 - 15:12
Maybe Nutso will kick herself to the curb. Whoever does the kicking, she'll be lucky if she comes to rest against the curb and not in the middle of the busy freeway.

  — Mike - 03 July '09 - 16:31
People who work with their hands and get paid by the half hour usually don't have their own health plan, other than marrying someone who does.

  — Noj - 03 July '09 - 16:42
I don't blame Saitta, much. He was fighting what he thought was the good fight, but when he finally figured out what Wart and the people around him were like, he got out while the getting was good. I blame him more for just disappearing and not making explicit why he quit.

Tyndale, would you mind asking Benjie, real nice, to post one of those death threats Wart got last March? He'll do it if you ask him. Thankee.

  — jgm () (URL) - 03 July '09 - 18:33
My mistake, sort of: http://portfolio.du.edu/portfolio/getportfoliofile?uid=139309. Talk about tepid, tho. He's completely removed himself from the trenches, tho still a second-hand Wart-supporter.

  — jgm () (URL) - 03 July '09 - 18:46
So Dean's a Wardo groupie again? What a fickle guy.

  — Noj - 03 July '09 - 19:38
JW! I see that Perfesser Jolly Cholly and his compatriot Benjii have mastered good ole Anglo-Saxon gutter language 101. Is this required for a degree in ethnic studies or is it an elective?

Where is Snapple?

  — Boe - 04 July '09 - 13:19
It's a core class for an Angry Studies major, Boe. As they say, there is no fuck in scholarship.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 04 July '09 - 13:21
Thanks for the prompt reply JW. Where is Snapple?

  — Boe - 04 July '09 - 13:28
Elsewhere. She's not allowed to comment here. Ever.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 04 July '09 - 13:29
JW! Did she proposition someone? Just wondering.

  — Boe - 04 July '09 - 13:36
Nope.

  — Noj - 04 July '09 - 17:04

You can ask her tomorrow. I just followed the link and chose the "Buy her now" option, with the overnight shipping upgrade.

  — Klaymore () - 04 July '09 - 18:01
Nice new feature, JWP. If I were on the other side I'd make Asian jokes, perhaps including a wood rasp.

Benjie, continuing to play games, just ONE death threat against Wart. Hell, from any time, anywhere. ONE.

Yes, I know: Fuck you, Martin.

  — jgm () (URL) - 04 July '09 - 20:26
JGM, I already posted a the link and relevant page numbers several months ago, maybe I'll go look again, but search your comment archives.

  — Tyndale - 06 July '09 - 10:33
Or rather, tell Paine to search his comment archives, I'm sure he'll do it if YOU ask him.

  — Tyndale - 06 July '09 - 10:33
Ok, here's the link, the hatemail starts on page 4. Now, it's not all death threats, but I'm gonna copy and paste my personal favorite: http://wardchurchill.net/40-b_ethnic_studies_open_letter.pdf

  — Tyndale - 06 July '09 - 10:46
I wasn’t gonna respond to Martin for the obvious reasons, Tyndale. But since you did (and thanks):

The students organizing the events got several death threats. They’re also not hard to find anywhere the story was covered in the local media. For instance, the Daily Camera article announcing the event included a comment recruiting folks to throw Ayers and Churchill a “boot party” which the editors wisely pulled. And one commenter to a Denver Post article suggested that the doors to the event be locked and everybody inside be “fumigated”. Then there was the Gunny Bob show about the event, which was nothing but a long, protracted death threat (admittedly mostly from the callers, not Newman himself).

As usual, I'd request that you do the slightest bit of research before popping off at the mouth, Martin, but really, who gives a shit what you think? You idiots have already lost this one; we're all just waiting to see how bad you're bleeding.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 11:26
It's amazing, Benjie, how easily you mistake that pile of bullshit from which you crow for moral high ground.

  [jwpaine] () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 12:36
How many anonymous death threats have you made in your life, Whitmer? Just an estimate, I'm sure you've lost count.

The number I've made: zero.

  — Wm T Sherman () - 06 July '09 - 13:05
Paine and Sherman to their dimmer brother’s rescue. Look, the asshole kept whining and kept whining until Tyndale and I pointed out that he, as usual, had no fucking idea what he was talking about, and now I’m the one standing on a mound of horseshit?

The point ain’t whether or not the rest of you have made death threats or whether I’ve made any. Why don’t you idiots try to stick to the issue? I’m not the one who brought this up. Nor is Tyndale. Martin brought it up repeatedly. I tried to ignore him because he’s a fucking idiot, but finally, with a little prompting from Tyndale, corrected the stupid, spastic, little shit. If he doesn’t want to be corrected, he shouldn’t go around make dipshit assertions that anybody could refute with ten seconds of Googling.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 13:15
Funny how the supposed "death threat" from Tyndale is laced with the same kind of obsession with obscenities and fascination with firearms that characterizes Churchill's entire pathetic career.

You would think he'd have the con man's good sense to at least let Nutso fabricate the "threat" intended for public display.

  — Arlo - 06 July '09 - 15:12
That's some conspiratorial paranoia worthy of Alex Jones himself, Arlo. Besides the fact that there is absolutely no evidence for your claim, here's Mr. Liles facebook page, he's certainly not Ward Churchill:

http://www.facebook.com/harold.liles

jackass

  — Tyndale - 06 July '09 - 15:19
I can't stop laughing, Tyndale.

Please, please, please, please, keep it coming, you dipshits.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 15:33
Arlo seems to have hit a nerve.

  — Just Saying - 06 July '09 - 17:40
If by "hit a nerve" you mean "showed his ass a la Martin by not doing the ten seconds worth of Googling that would've shown his asshole stupid assertion to be, well, asshole stupid," then yes, yes he did.

  — Just Saying - 06 July '09 - 18:40
Got it. Because there is more than one Harold Liles on the internet, it must have been Ward Churchill who wrote that death threat. Your logic is fucking impeccable.

See, this is the reason I don't play this game with y'all anymore. Because you're completely fucking dipshit crazy.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 20:41
I concede that Wart got some death threats. Big deal. Destroys the whole argument against him, doesn't it? He's still not getting his job back. And like Sherm and JWP, I've made no death threats, ever, to anyone. You have.

  — jgm () (URL) - 06 July '09 - 22:15
USA Today- February 8,2005

"Tuesday's speech in which Churchill defended himself almost didn't happen. Campus officials postponed it Monday for security reasons. Student organizers of the lecture said they had received threats."

"But Churchill and his supporters sought a federal court injunction in Denver on Tuesday to override that decision. After university officials met again with the organizers, students "retracted" their reports of death threats and urged that the speech go forward, said Ronald Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs."

  — Laurie - 06 July '09 - 23:35
No, no, no, the point was for you to concede that you shot off at the mouth with absolutely no idea what you were talking about, a startlingly regular occurrence.

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 06:21
Laurie, who cares what Stump said that (which?) students said in an effort to allow Churchill to speak? Threats are documented. Repeatedly. The "retraction" you cite came after the University used the threats as an excuse to bar Churchill from speaking, and certainly doesn't cover all instances. Way to lump yourself in with Martin and Arlo.

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 06:24
And lastly, Mr. "just saying," The Harold Liles in question is the one who works for North Carolina Railroad (hence the "nc.rr" in his email address). Glad I could clear that up for you, it can be a big scary confusing world out there, I know.

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 06:26
See, this is why I don’t play these games with you disphits anymore. So, Martin reads a post on my blog which has an aside about Ward Churchill getting death threats. He closes his eyes and disbelieves without doing any research whatsoever, and starts posting claims that there were no death threats. I ignore him because he’s an idiot. He persists. I still ignore him. He gets emboldened, and switches into spastic mode, asking us to provide any death threat ever leveled at Ward Churchill. Finally Tyndale, who can take no more, directs him to a document chock full of death threats that has been posted over at wardchurchill.net for about three years. Hoping to shut Martin up, I then provide a couple of the death threats pertaining to the specific event in question.

Your response?

Jim Paine leads with a bullshit metaphor that has nothing to do with anything. Sherman claims that I’ve made death threats before in my life and he never has. Fred pens some cliché-ridden pop-psychology screed of the sort that would leave Dr. Phil shuddering in horror. Amos claims Ward Churchill wrote his own death threats. When that’s proven wrong, Amos under another name posts a bunch of unrelated links. Martin petulantly admits he was full of shit, and then reiterates Sherman’s irrelevant claim that, like, I’m a bad person and he is not. Laurie posts a link to a retracted death threat claim that may or may not have happened four fucking years ago.

All of which, every last bit, is entirely irrelevant to the question Martin posed and the claims he made.

This is why I said I wasn’t gonna play this game in the first place. You dipshits cannot stick to the subject at hand. And you seemingly have all the time in the world to sit around making irrelevant shit up, and then think you’ve won the argument when your opponent refuses to address every single one of your cockamamie, unrelated tangents. Seriously, the difference between Snapple and the rest of you is a matter of degree, not kind.

So, again, not playing this shit anymore. Feel free to feed on yourselves.

  — Benjamin () (URL) - 07 July '09 - 08:28
Tyndale,

Wrong as usual. The domain ncrr.com is for a North Carolina Railroad site. However, Harold's supposed email address is hrliles@nc.rr.com. Even an idiot should realize that nc.rr.com is not the same as ncrr.com.

The nc.rr.com means that his email provider is Time Warner's Road Runner service in North Carolina. See http://www.robtex.com/dns/nc.rr.com.html for more info.

Also the Harold Liles' Facebook page that you point to has his location as Dallas/Fort Worth, not North Carolina. You are as sloppy with details as Churchill.

  — Leah - 07 July '09 - 09:07
sf8 panthers have charges dropped http://www.sfbg.com/blogs/politics/2009/07/charges_dismissed_against_most.html

  — Madison - 07 July '09 - 09:43
Yeah Laurie, I fabricated death threats against Churchill in order to establish the new world order, we're gonna put a giant peanut with Jimmy Carter's face in charge and make everyone gay marry. You got me.

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 09:59
basically you're right that i did some sloppy internet work, but I have a real life and little time to stalk people (unlike you lot). Doesn't change the fact that death threats were received and that Mr. Harold Liles from NC sent the one I copy pasta'd. Look at the rest of that list and do some detective work as well. It's beside the point anyway, OF COURSE Churchill received death threats, it's probably not the first time either. Stretching and trying to say he sent them to himself is just nonsense.

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 10:06
In fact the Harold Liles whom Tyndale defames with this link...

http://www.facebook.com/harold.liles

...is the same Harold Liles who works as a "Sr. Systems Engineer at BT Global Services," in Dallas, as pictured here:

http://www.linkedin.com/pub/harold-liles/b/68b/a71.

I wonder if Mr. Liles the "Sr. Systems Engineer" in Dallas knows about this defamation? Maybe someone should call him? He probably can be reached at his workplace: (214) 670-9611‎.

Tyndale's internet references are as obfuscating as Churchill's footnotes.

  — Just Saying - 07 July '09 - 10:21
I'm shaking in my boots "Just Saying." I wonder if that same innocent bystander would be interested in the fact that you just posted his personal information?

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 10:36
PS thanks for demonstrating my point about who the real professional internet stalkers are. I can't even compete. Now, back to the fact that Churchill received death threats, that the university failed to protect him, and that he was fired for his political opinions expressed outside of academia, do you have ANYTHING to add? Anything at all?

  — Tyndale - 07 July '09 - 10:39
Here's some information about "nc.rr.com". That email domain for the "death threat" supposedly from "Harold Liles" has nothing to do with the North Carolina Railroad Company. There is not worker for the North Carolina Railroad Company named "Harold Liles". As usual, Tyndale is lying.

http://www.robtex.com/dns/nc.rr.com.html

  — Just Saying - 07 July '09 - 11:04
Gerbbils complains:

“You dipshits cannot stick to the subject at hand.”

Oh Please. Martin’s question was a statement about Churchill’s veracity. And the repeated questions about Churchill’s veracity underlie virtually everything Churchill. Whitmer and the other Little Churchills know this and avoid the subject like the plague. If Ward didn’t habitually practice deception and deceit we wouldn’t all be here reading this.

If Churchill’s veracity weren’t an issue the websites PB and DB wouldn’t exist, the investigation into Ward’s scholarship wouldn’t have happened, he wouldn’t have been fired and on and on.

The subject at hand is and has always been Churchill’s veracity—something Whitmer hasn’t ever come within 50 miles of discussing.

  — Fred - 07 July '09 - 12:48
Move along, nothing to see here (any more). Tyndale admitted to sloppiness, so did I. Everyone makes mistakes, except Wart and Benjie and Lane (who, respectively, lie, threaten, bully; lie, threaten, bully; lie, threaten. . .).

Tyndale, I'm waiting for your takedown of Naves' decision.
