I have carefully reviewed the Report of the Investigative Committee, Professor Churchills responses to the Committee, and the Recommendations of the Standing Committee on Research Misconduct. I have met with and obtained the separate input of Provost Susan Avery and Todd Gleeson, the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. I met with Professor Churchill and his attorney, David Lane. After conducting the due diligence I felt was necessary, I have come to a decision regarding the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Research Misconduct pertaining to Professor Ward Churchill. Today, I issued to Professor Churchill a notice of intent to dismiss him from his faculty position at the University of Colorado, Boulder....but the burlesque is far from over. Later in the statement:
[...L]et me briefly explain the process as we go forward. Professor Churchill may request within 10 days to have President Brown or me forward this recommendation to the Faculty Senate Committee on Privilege and Tenure. If Professor Churchill does so, a special panel will then conduct hearings about this matter and make a recommendation to the president about whether the grounds for dismissal are supported.
The decision is what everyone expected. What I really wanted to know is when are they going to stop his paycheck? Does he keep getting paid through the appeal, or what?

This isn't going away soon, but another hurdle has been jumped. I'm more worried about the lawyer Churchill hired than any more committees at CU: the whole faculty seems to be against Churchill now.
McKreck () (URL) - 26 June '06 - 15:37
Good question, Noj. I'd imagine he'll continue to be paid until the day all of his various appeals are exhausted and the decision to dismiss him for cause stands.
Jim Paine () - 26 June '06 - 15:38
The entire CU faculty is not anti-Churchill. Tom Mayer and those two clowns on the radio show a few weeks ago will go down with the ship. But the only faculty votes that count right now are the ones on the P&T committee, which will hear Churchill's appeal. Anyone want to start handicapping that roster?
Noj - 26 June '06 - 16:16
Noj,
I understand what you're saying, it's just that with all of the Standing Committee recommending some punishment, a solid majority recommending outright dismissal, and now the chancellor recommending dismissal, I think the momentum is so against Churchill that the last committee won't intervene. Maybe I'm too sanguine.
McKreck (URL) - 26 June '06 - 16:32
I agree that Churchill is probably history. However, if you look at the T&P committee's rules, they can basically start a whole new investigation from scratch if they want, a total do-over from what the SCRM committee has already decided. It's potentially a whole new ballgame. But I still think he's toast anyway.
Noj - 26 June '06 - 16:43
A NEW investigation? Yikes.
McKreck () (URL) - 26 June '06 - 16:48
A new CU committee might start piling on more revelations about Churchill.

"I wonder old GLO is going to weigh in "
I imagine that old fraud Ward has his hands full right about now.
Federal Dog - 27 June '06 - 05:54
I read an article where Rhonda Kelly claimed that after her sister,Ward's wife Leah Kelly, died that Ward Churchill wanted them all to visit some spiritualist, perhaps to contact Leah.
I can't find where I read this, but I did read that Rhonda said something like that. It seems like Churchill has some belief in the occult.
Some of his writings are more like con-artist fortune-telling than history.
Do you have this article that quotes Rhonda on that? Would it be possible to contact her and find out exactly what this was all about?
M.Schachter - 27 June '06 - 06:50
It was posted earlier that Churchill was going to a conference on religion in Canada. What is his religion?
M. Schachter - 27 June '06 - 08:59
Philosophunculism.
Jim Paine () - 27 June '06 - 12:16
I looked that up, but it means someone who pretends to know more than he does. That is not a religion.
Maybe you don't know if Churchill has a religion, but he is going to a conference about religion, so I wondered what his religion is.
According to Rhonda Kelly, Churchill may hold occult beliefs. She wrote that he wanted her family to visit some kind of spiritualist. Maybe to contact Leah after she died. This was like a medium or a fortune teller.
You can blow it off, but Rhonda was quoted in a newspaper about this.
Sometimes it is good to pay attention even to things people tell you that don't seem to make sense at first. Rhonda is a pretty good witness, I think.
I also had an intimidating experience that makes me think he believes in the occult, but it is hard to be sure.
M. Schachter - 27 June '06 - 13:35
I've heard that Churchill and Glen Morris actually did take Leah Kelly's family members to some psychic who pretended to contact the dead.
I doubt if Churchill himself is into "the occult." I'd guess that for Churchill it was just a way to try to put one over on the family.
Noj - 27 June '06 - 14:54
Thank you. If you find out more, maybe you could relate it.
I am not so sure.
M. Schachter - 27 June '06 - 15:10
If you knew that word off the top of your head you're a very sick man, JWP.

I will be HAPPY to be myself. I hate having to sneak.
If I wanted to disguise myself, I could.
I will try not to be a PAINE.
