Enjoy The Perfesser in good health, Canadian taxpayers! Unfortunately for the US, however, Ward Churchill hasn't disappeared entirely from the domestic scene; he also wrote the preface for Creating a Movement with Teeth: A Documentary History of the George Jackson Brigade, a forthcoming book from the same fine microscopic press that published Churchill's dog, Benjie's, first novel-length fiction. Kinda sad when even radical small presses won't publish anything longer from Wart than a forward/preface. (big ht Leah for all links)

OT: The most well-reasoned argument for Health Care Reform we have found.

Question: If you were writing an article entitled "Latest Pedophelia Scandal Rocks the Vatican" in which you condemn not only Catholicism, but an entire hemisphere and even the supreme being you hold responsible for same, who would you turn to for evidence supporting your argument?
Answer: Well, if you're Stephen Lendman, your choice is obvious—Professor Doctor Indian Scholar Ward Churchill, of course. Because nothing lends credence to an ambitious j'accuse like authoritative quotes from a proven liar.
Lendman writes:
In his book "Kill the Indian, Save the Man: The Genocidal Impact of American Indian Residential Schools," Ward Churchill documented America's hidden holocaust, begun under Captain Richard H. Pratt (a former prison warden), architect of US residential schools as superintendent of the prototype Carlyle [sic], PA Indian Industrial School in 1879. His objective — "kill the Indian, save the man" in every child, but he and others did both for five generations.Half the children? Back in 2006, PB noted (third item) a Rocky Mountain News article in which Ojibwa author Brenda Child accused The Perfesser of using without attribution a photograph from her own book on the subject of Indian boarding schools
Half the children didn't survive, the result of extreme cruelty, torture, beatings, systematic rape and other sexual abuse, malnutrition, disease, forced labor, no contact with family members or cultural traditions, and despair-driven suicides.
"I was surprised that [my photograph of a child's grave] was there because he's never sought my permission to use it and it appeared without my knowing that it would be in his book," said Child, a University of Minnesota faculty member in American studies. Why do phrases like "tremendous exaggeration" and "beyond belief" crop up in anything written about Churchill (anything written by someone not on The Perfesser's Xmas card list, that is)? BTW: Here's Beverly Slapin's 2006 review (w-a-y at the end of the long-long page; search for City Lights, 2004 to find it faster) of Kill The Indian, Save The Man, wherein she adds "massive ego" "pomposity" and "unreadable" to the litany.
Worse, from Child's standpoint, is the caption Churchill appended to the photograph. It said that half the children at the nation's Indian boarding schools suffered the same fate as the child whose grave is pictured in the photograph.
That figure is a "tremendous exaggeration," Child said. "That is just beyond belief."

YouTube video of Ward Churchill lout-shouting at Northern Michigan University yesterday. he seems to be on an "evil Christianity" kick these days.

For those few among us who are not already considering seppuku rather than inflict our congenitally inescapable racism on our fellow humyn beings, one of PB's jackbooted thugs alerts us to a workshop at which we can remove all doubt: "Thinking About Whiteness and Doing Anti-Racism"
Don't worry, though. The workshop is in Canada, so it's just for those filthy Canuck racists. This would never happen in the US. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Speaking of Michigan (and who isn't?), The Perfesser is lout-shouting up in Marquette today, at the gala Indigenous Earth Issues Summit hosted by Northern Michigan University's Center for Native American Studies (ht Leah).

No date on this Grant Crowell video, and where we initially found it suggests it is several years old (as does The Perfesser's comparatively svelte appearance), but it does add a new meme to Ward Churchill's story: He claims he was "sucker-punched real good last night" by a neo-Nazi "who's been stalking me for two years" (could this be more than a one-time thing? That would certainly explain those ineluctable sunglasses).
Chutch also adds expert etymologist to his burgeoning list of accomplishments, noting that the "Slavs" were given their name from the word "slave"—although numerous scholars (white, colonialist oppressors, no doubt) are quick to ignore The Perfesser's oral tradition (said tradition, of course, being one of "making shit up").

OT: Sadly, this is not an April Fool's prank*, unless you count as fools the electorate of Georgia's Fourth Congressional District, who put this peabrain in office. And we do. (via AoS)
Update: Cynthia McKinney is no doubt planning a "Miss Me Yet?" billboard campaign.
Update II: Sure enough....

Update III: Congressman Hank Johnson (D, BizarroWorld) has, of course, a reasonable (your mileage may vary) explanation (via AoS)
* Sure as hell seems like one, though. Seriously: Who could be that stupid and still manage to survive to adulthood?
